Creighton Baseball suffered its second shutout loss of the season as the Bluejays fell to Minnesota 3-0 on Saturday, March 25.
The loss moved Creighton to 9-8 on the season, while Minnesota climbed to 5-19.
The two squads engaged in a second straight pitchers duel as Minnesota's first hit came in the fourth inning. The Golden Gophers, however, plated two runs in the fourth and another in the seventh to earn the win. The two runs for the Gophers in the fourth came on an RBI ground out from Jake Larson as well as an RBI walk from Brady Jurgella. In the seventh Minnesota got an RBI single from Brett Bateman. Minnesota starter George Klassen earned his first win of the season (1-3), limiting the Bluejays to three hits and two walks in six innings. Richard Holeetz earned his first save with three scoreless frames to close the door.
Creighton starter Anthony Watts took the loss (1-2), allowing two runs on two hits in 4.2 frames.
The Bluejays closed the contest with three hits, one each coming from sophomore Nolan Sailors, one from senior Sterling Hayes and the first of the game from sophomore Hogan Helligso.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Wednesday, March 29 as the Bluejays travel to Lawrence to face Kansas for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
