As fireworks season is now upon us, we here at the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency would like for everyone to know that we understand the importance of the date, and we also understand the concerns that many people have with the season. Please note that at the state level, we issue permits for the distribution and sale of consumer grade fireworks, and we issue licenses and permits for professional fireworks displays. We do not, however, regulate the use of retail/consumer fireworks in any county, city, town, or village. When you have concerns about the use of consumer fireworks (permissible sales periods, permissible lighting, permissible hours, etc.), you need to work with your local officials to get these concerns resolved.
We will always encourage people to enjoy fireworks by attending professional displays and other events. If you choose to purchase and use consumer fireworks, we also encourage you to be safe, follow package instructions, follow all local ordinances, and to have a designated, sober adult in charge of lighting the fireworks. Be courteous to your neighbors. Don’t let kids light or hold fireworks. Safety first.
